Uproar Over Atkins Bars in Forever 21 Online Orders

The headlines popped up quickly... like "Forever 21 Is Sending Diet Bars with Plus-Size Orders" and the outrage was on.

How dare they target plus-size people like this?

They didn't.

They sent Atkins bar samples to all their customers, according to CNN--

"From time to time, Forever 21 surprises our customers with free test products from third parties in their e-commerce orders," the company said. "The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed. This was an oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused to our customers, as this was not our intention in any way."

I imagine they thought it was a good idea for a partnership, because Atkins is marketing to women and Forever 21 sells clothes to women.

What they didn't count on was how sensitive a subject weight can be... how easily some people can be offended... and how quick they are to post the fact that they're offended.

This is why we can't have nice things...like freebies.
