This story out of Oregon is an "oh my gosh" kind of story about Alexa.
This couple's device recorded their conversation and sent it to someone on the family's contact list.
And they wouldn't have known about it if the person hadn't called them.
All I can say is thank goodness they were only talking about hardwood floors!!!
And for those of you who are thinking she made the whole thing up-- there's this. A statement from Amazon to KIRO 7:
They admit it happened. And they told her they were very sorry. She's holding out for a refund for all her devices. I think I'd be suing... though it's hard to prove damages.
The only thing that was really damaged was their trust in Alexa.
So does this mean Alexa could go to jail??
We don't have one in our house. Our son got one for Christmas and took it with him to school. Frankly, we found it annoying because Alexa just didn't understand what we were asking.
But after this bit of news, I wonder how many people are unplugging!
Again, thank goodness it wasn't anything damaging or offensive or embarrassing... just a plain old boring conversation that for some reason Alexa felt like sharing.
I'm totally creeped out by this.
