Emily's post of her dog wearing headphones and watching videos on an iPad went viral a couple of years ago not only because it's adorable, but also because it's a good idea.
The family uses noise-canceling headphones and lets Joey watch dog videos to distract him from fireworks or anything that would upset him. He's particularly fond of Animal Planet, according to Emily.
If you're trying to soothe a frightened dog over the Fourth of July holiday, music works well. So does distraction. And then there are thunder shirts/jackets... designed to make a dog feel secure.
The Mobile SPCA says Facebook posts about lost dogs spike after the Fourth and New Year's Eve, because frightened dogs run away. Make sure your dog has a collar with a tag that has your phone number, to make it easier to get your pet back home.
