Sarah Thomas Makes The Gulf Coast Proud

Referee Sarah Thomas is now the first woman to officiate a Super Bowl. The Pascagoula native and Universitiy of Mobile grad officiated the Bucs' 31-9 win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Troy Vincent senior says Thomas' commitment to excellence earned her a spot on the officiating team for the 55th Super Bowl.

It's not the first time Thomas has made history in football. In 2015, she became the NFL's first full-time female official, and in 2019 she was the first woman to officiate an NFL playoff game.

How does it feel? She tells NFL Officiating that “knowing the impact that I’m having on not just my daughter, but young girls everywhere, this is remarkable and I’m truly honored and humbled to be a part of this year’s Super Bowl crew.”

The University of Mobile has announced that Thomas will deliver the commencement address at her alma mater on May 8th.
