Study Shows Moms of Young Children Drank 323% More During Pandemic

Dealing with the stress of the pandemic has led to an increase in drinking across the board, according to a new study.

39% of Americans were found to be drinking more than alcohol guidelines recommend (4 drinks per day for men, with a max of 14 per week; 3 drinks per day for women, with a max of 7 drinks per week).

But the numbers were really high for mothers of young children (under the age of 5). Their drinking increased a whopping 323% between the start of the pandemic and the end of last year.

Researchers say women were more likely to turn to alcohol to deal with the stress, anxiety and depression brought on by the pandemic.

And the study showed that is wasn't just a quick fix; the trend continued through the entire year.

The research was done on behalf of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
