I must admit, looking at this map, it's a little confusing.
Starting Thursday (June 1st), the Water Street on-ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.
And that's a good thing, because it's always been scary to merge into traffic on that curve heading into the Wallace Tunnel. A lot of accidents have happened there.
The part I'm confused about? The way they're directing traffic to Texas Street, so they can turn around and get on I-10 EB.
Seems like they'd just put you on I-10 WB and tell you to exit at Texas Street, right? But engineers say this way will flow better.
We'll find out tomorrow. You go first.
It's important to note that this will not help with capacity (the number of cars going through the tunnel) but it should go a long way toward reducing accidents at the tunnel entrance!

ALDOT TO CLOSE THE I-10 EASTBOUND WATER ST. ON-RAMP THIS WEEK
Mobile, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has completed the Texas St. interchange modifications in downtown Mobile and has scheduled the closure of the I-10 eastbound Water St. on-ramp for Thursday, June 1. The new interchange modifications will direct traffic along Canal St. onto Claiborne St. then to Texas St. where a free flow on-ramp has been installed to provide access to I-10 eastbound. The purpose of this project is not to alleviate capacity but to improve the safety and efficiency of the I-10 eastbound movement. Message boards and law enforcement will be utilized on Thursday for safety and information purposes. The $1.2 million project was constructed by McElhenney Construction Co.
