Goodbye, Tom Petty. Our Hearts Are Breaking

I got the text from my son.

"Mom. Tom Petty died."

And I'm not going to go into all the mess that was involved in reporting the death, other than to say that maybe the media could learn from it and give families a chance to deal with the agonizing last hours of a loved one's life in peace.

Probably not.  But we can hope.  And we can ask them to respect that in the future.

The announcement we were expecting came late last night--

Having trouble remembering your favorite Tom Petty songs?  Here's a list of 50.  I bet your favorite's on it.

Mine?  Anything Traveling Wilburys.  They made me happy.

Tom Petty had just wrapped up his last tour just a week ago.

Before the tour started, he told Rolling Stone - "We're all on the backside of our sixties. I have a granddaughter now I'd like to see as much as I can. I don't want to spend my life on the road."

I'll just leave this here... Tom Petty's final encore.
