Note to My Kids: Don't Try This in Your Corolla

Just a quick reminder, to both my kids, whom I immediately thought of when I saw this story, and to anyone else who needs a reminder---  That fuel-efficient car you're driving is NOT The General Lee from "Dukes of Hazzard" . . .

THIS is the General Lee---

This is what's left of a Toyota Corolla that tried to BE the General Lee--

So a man was driving his Toyota Corolla (I'm very familiar with that car, both my kids have one) near Fort Myers, Florida Monday night, and ended up on a dead-end street with a 20-foot canal at the end of it.

He got out of his car, walked up to see how big the gap was, and decided he could make it.

At this point, you know it's not going to end well.

He got back in his Corolla . . . threw it in reverse to give himself some runway . . . then FLOORED it . . . and tried to JUMP it across the canal.

Again, you can see what's coming.

He didn't make it.  He's okay, but his car ended up in the canal.  For those of you who aren't familiar with what happens when your car ends up in a canal... it's totaled.

Police think alcohol might have played a role.  (A lot of poor decision-making starts that way...)

Oh, and THE BEST PART???

There was a BRIDGE just two blocks away.

Just let that sink in...
