WATCH: Pitcher Hugs Batter After Striking Him Out

"There's no crying in baseball!"  We all know the Tom Hanks line from "A League of Their Own".

But hugging in baseball?  This week there is, and it's going viral.

They'd played baseball together for years.  And the pitcher said afterward-- "Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated."

Ok, maybe I'm tearing up a little.  And I'm a little surprised that some people are actually panning this act of kindness.  (See some of the tweets below.)

I can honestly say that one of my favorite things to see after a game, no matter who wins, is my son hug one of his friends on the opposing team. At that moment, all's right with the world.  And I feel like maybe I've done a good job raising this kid after all.

There have been moments that I held my breath to see what would happen after a particularly brutal game.  But he's never let me down or let his friends down.

Not everyone agreed it was the right thing to do. Really?

Most saw it as a true gesture of friendship and good sportsmanship.
