The company behind Necco wafers and Sweethearts has shut down its plant in Massachusetts.
And the candy world is in a panic. What will become of the classic Necco wafer, Sweethearts, Mary Jane, Thin Mints, Clark Bars...
Ok, classic in that they've been around a long time. Not that we necessarily LIKED the taste or anything! (I always thought they tasted like a mix of chalk and Pepto-Bismal, but maybe that's just me.)
But still... what will we glue on those Valentines now??
So sad! I mean the candy was awful, but it was classic.— Carolyn Kellogg (@paperhaus) July 25, 2018
It's not just the candy hearts that we could be losing....

Necco is an acronym for New England Confectionery Co, founded in 1901
Good thing I stocked up, these should last me until about 2066 😬
No more candy 💕’s either
