It used to be a Thanksgiving Day tradition, after the turkey and trimmings, to break out the sale ads and figure out a plan of attack for Black Friday.
And there were those in my family who started their shopping at midnight, which I thought was nuts. I never got to take part in any of the early morning specials, because I always worked on Black Friday. I tried once, but when I saw the line for the cash register wrapped around to the back of the store, I gave up and went to work.
Then more and more stores started opening on Thanksgiving Day. And some members of the family couldn't make it to Thanksgiving dinner because they had to work.
We weren't happy.
More and more stores are deciding it's not worth it to open on Thanksgiving. Some want to give that time to their employees to spend with their families; others just didn't see the need, with online sales booming and less foot traffic in the stores.
A survey last year found most people were AGAINST stores opening on Thanksgiving. Only about 16% were in favor of it. That's not a lot.
So more and more stores will be CLOSED this Thanksgiving. The number (so far) is 64 confirmed, though many of them aren't in our area.
So here's the list so far of stores that will be CLOSED --
