Newk's Was Closed to Make Meals for First Responders

Newk's Eatery in Mobile's McGowin Park has re-opened after being closed the last couple days. The restaurant was closed as employees were packing up box lunches for first responders working in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

That work has kept the store very busy, even without any customers coming in. NBC-15 reports that Newk's was packing between 1000 to 2000 lunches each day. And according to WKRG, those lunches were being packed onto a truck each night and taken to the devastated area.

Now, it's not exactly charity work. Newk's restaurants have been contracted to do this work, but WKRG says this was the only location that was completely shut down to make these meals.
