Like Father, Like Son: Michael Gandolfini Plays Young Tony Soprano

Like father, like son.  And doesn't this make you want to see the movie a whole lot more?!

The son of late Emmy-winning actor James Gandolfini will play a younger version of Tony in The Sopranos' film prequel.

And it's not just a gimmick.  Filmmakers said they auditioned numerous actors, but 19-year-old Michael Gandolfini perfectly captured the look and mannerisms of the character originated by his father during the television show's original run on HBO from 1999 to 2007.  James Gandolfini died in 2013 at the age of 51.

The upcoming film, "The Many Saints of Newark," featuring the young Tony Soprano, will be set in the 1960s.

Michael is 19; that would make him around 13 when his father died.
