Stuck on a Deserted Island With What "Sesame Street" Character?

The Sesame Street Twitter feed has asked its followers what character they'd like to be stuck on a deserted island with. Most of us should have an opinion, because the show has endured for generations. I was among the first to see it, when it debuted on PBS on November 10, 1969. Yes, I'm that old. They numbered all the episodes in the early days, and it just occurred to me that they were probably teaching the little ones how to count. Thanks to repeats, I learned that numbers only went up to 39 and then started over. (kidding, really)

So here's the big question: You’re stuck on a deserted island and you can pick one of these Sesame Street friends to come with you. Who are you picking and why? 🤔

I've had a hard time with this question, not just because a lot of the characters weren't around in 1969, but because my favorite character from Sesame Street is not necessarily the one I'd want to share the deserted island with.

That character is Cookie Monster.

I've always been a fan of his culinary choices, and now that he's realized cookies are a "sometimes" food, he's actually not overdoing it. But Cookie is a monster, and he's got quite an appetite. If Cookie Monster is on the island with me, I'd have to sleep with one eye open.

Ernie had that annoying laugh, and there is no Bert without Ernie -- or so it seems. So that leaves me with Oscar the Grouch, who's really quite lovable. Yeah, I'm staying on the island with Oscar; he seems resourceful to have survived so long in a garbage can.

Who'd you pick?
