This is not the news release you'd expect, when you hear that someone was knocked over the side of the Bayway in a crash:
At around 9:36 p.m. on Saturday, Mar 23, a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant was eastbound on the Bayway at the 33.7-mile marker in Baldwin County, experienced mechanical issues and stopped in the inside emergency lane. A male got out and walked to the front of the vehicle to work under the hood. While working on the vehicle, it was struck from behind by a 2016 Ford Fusion. The collision caused the male to be thrown over the bridge wall and into the water below. ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers were notified and responded to the scene where the victim was retrieved from the water and returned to land (he was actually checked by medics and returned to the scene with minor injury!). Both lanes of I-10 are open and moving at this time.
I think we all agree that Damion J. Wright has a guardian angel, right? He spent an hour in the water til help could arrive. The whole time he's wondering if his baby and the woman in his car were ok. Thank goodness, they were.
