Get a Driver's License on a SATURDAY? Soon, in Mobile!

Coming soon... you'll be able to get your driver's license on a SATURDAY in Mobile.

Still waiting on details... like which office and what hours.

Doesn't look like renewals can be done on Saturdays... but taking your kid for their test, without missing work or school, is HUGE. (Ok, maybe more for you than for them...)

Here's the scoop:

ALEA’s Driver License Division Launching Saturday Operations in Three Locations

MONTGOMERY-- The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Secretary Hal Taylor announced today, March 29, the agency will launch Saturday operations April 6 at three of its Driver License Examining Offices across the state.

“We regularly re-evaluate our services and work to accommodate our customers, the citizens of Alabama,” Secretary Taylor said. “A number of individuals find it difficult to take off time from work or school during the standard work week. We hope to make it more convenient by adding Saturday service at our Driver License offices in Birmingham, Opelika and Mobile.

Saturday services will be available for first driver license issuances, out-of-state transfers, and knowledge and road skills tests. Although reinstatement services will not be part of this new initiative, customers with such issues are welcome to handle business by phone during regular hours Monday through Friday. The number is 334.242.4400.

Secretary Taylor said the agency will monitor Saturday activity at the three locations and hopes to expand to include other Driver License offices.

In addition, ALEA is expanding hours at field offices in 21 Alabama counties to reduce travel time and expense for customers who reside in those areas. The following offices will be open at least one day each week: Baldwin, Chambers, Cherokee, Choctaw, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Crenshaw, Fayette, Franklin, Geneva, Henry, Lamar, Lawrence, Randolph, St. Clair, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Washington, Wilcox and Winston counties. Attached is a complete listing, with days of operation and street addresses.

Nothing further is available at this time.
