Krispy Kreme FILLED Original Doughnut? Get One Free Saturday!

"One small bite for man. One giant leap for doughnut-kind!" Original Filled Doughnuts "blasted off" this week in honor of Apollo 11's 50th anniversary,

Who knew there was a connection between doughnuts and Apollo 11... but Krispy Kreme was there!

"Krispy Kreme was at the launch of Apollo 11, serving fresh doughnuts to Americans witnessing liftoff of this monumental mission. As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we want to give our fans a new taste experience that is out of this world," said Dave Skena, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, in a statement.

As reported by Space.com, there's footage in the NEON and CNN Films' documentary "Apollo 11" that actually shows a snack stand offering Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the VIP launch viewing area for NASA's Apollo 11 on the morning of July 16, 1969 when Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins started their journey to the moon!

While I don't think filling a glazed doughnut ranks up there with a moon landing, I'm still sitting here wondering what kind of space-age technology allows Krispy Kreme to FILL the RING of the doughnut instead of the center.

Here's the scoop from Krispy Kreme on their new Original Filled:

"It’s round. It’s glazed. And for the first time in the U.S., it’s FILLED! Introducing Original Filled Doughnuts. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, an out-of-this-world innovation by Krispy Kreme has arrived. Featuring Krispy Kreme’s classic Original Glazed® doughnut, the new product is currently available in your choice of two fillings: Classic Kreme™ and Chocolate Kreme™, providing the perfect bite every time.

Try one FREE on Saturday, 6/22 at one of our participating shops"

I checked the list. Krispy Kremes in Mobile, Pensacola and Gulfport are all participating.
