Escambia County School District: Friday Evening Activities Canceled

Escambia County School District, Florida

Schools Will Be Open Friday, October 18, 2019

Friday Evening Activities Canceled Due to Tropical Storm Nestor

Escambia County School Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has announced that schools will be open on Friday, October 18, 2019. “In an abundance of caution, due to adverse weather conditions related to Tropical Storm Nestor, all evening extracurricular activities for Friday, October 18, 2019 have been canceled.”

Friday extracurricular activities canceled include football games within Escambia County, Florida; Booker T. Washington High School vs Tate High School; and all games previously scheduled to be played to the east of Escambia County; Escambia High School vs Ft. Walton Beach High School; Pensacola High School vs Panama City Arnold High School; and Pine Forest High School vs. Choctaw High School in Ft. Walton.

Currently, plans for the football game in Louisiana for West Florida High School vs DaLaSalle High School have not been affected.

“Although current projections for this storm track for Tropical Storm Nestor indicate that our area will be spared the greatest part of the storm, the district does not want students to travel during inclement weather. On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the district will resume outside activities scheduled after 12:00 noon.”

Superintendent Thomas stated “The district will continue to monitor weather updates, and should the storm’s track change, the impact will be evaluated and, if necessary, communicate any updates or announcements through local media, School Messenger calls and on school district media.”
