Health Order: Masks Strongly Recommended For All Employees & Customers

So psyched to find more masks in a drawer at work! And I know I have some at home as well!

Four years of rowing on the iHeart team at Fuse Project's Dragon Boat races paid off!

They always gave rowers a buff, which I usually soaked in ice water and put around my neck to cool off between races. But thanks to my dermatologist (Dr Kathryn Dempsey) recommending buffs for sun protection as well as a mask, I'm putting these to use again in a whole different way.

As of tomorrow, wearing a face covering is "strongly recommended" for all employees and customers of grocery stores and other retailers, according to the health order issued Wednesday in Mobile County:

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Bernard H. Eichold II has issued orders encouraging the wearing of face coverings at retail establishments because of the risk of infection by the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

This follows a recommendation by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention on April 3rd for the wearing of face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Examples were grocery stores and pharmacies.

“Now therefore, these premises considered to protect the health and safety of all Mobile County residents, threatened by the spread of COVID-19, it is ordered effective in Mobile County, Alabama, Friday, April 17, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. that all ‘essential retailers’ as defined in paragraph 2 of the Order, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and ‘big box’ stores, shall comply with the following rule in addition to any other applicable provisions of the Order,” said Dr. Eichold.

“1. Strongly recommend all employees and customers wear protective face covers including bandana/cottage industry masks when engaged in any/all retailing operations (Medical certified masks should be avoided unless ordered by a physician).

“2. This Order of the Mobile County Health Officer shall remain in full forces as long as the State Health Officer’s Order amended April 3, 2020 remains in effect.”

Dr. Eichold added this is a recommendation as the peak of the current COVID-19 outbreak is expected in the next few weeks. He said a mother arriving at a grocery store to get milk and bread would not be denied entry without a face covering, but the wearing of one is strongly encouraged to protect the wearer and those around them.

Side note: Fresh Market DOES require face coverings for all customers now.
