Tropical Depression #9 formed today in the Caribbean and could become a MAJOR hurricane by the time it reaches the Gulf Coast this weekend (although the forecast uncertainty is larger than usual because the system is just forming.)
Gulf Coast residents from the Florida Panhandle to the northern Texas coast are urged to be prepared for this storm, with the greatest risk along the coast of Louisiana.
From The National Hurricane Center:
The depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight, and
become a hurricane when it is near western Cuba or over the
southeastern Gulf of Mexico. Additional strengthening is likely
over the Gulf of Mexico and the system could be near major
hurricane strength when it approaches the northern Gulf coast.
