Best Bets For The Weekend, Sept 11- Sept 13

9/11 COMMEMORATION and TUNNEL TO TOWERS 5K RUN- Sat 7:30am (Run); 9:30am (Service), USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park will hold a Commemoration Service marking the 20th anniversary of 9/11. The service will take place on Saturday, September 11, 9:30 a.m., at the Fallen Heroes Memorial on the grounds of the park. Captain Brad Israel, former US Army Special Forces Detachment Commander, will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. The 9/11 Commemoration Service is free of charge and the public is invited to attend. CLICK HERE  

Among the activities planned at the park will be the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk. The opening ceremony will take place on the grounds of the park at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:00 a.m. The race will begin at the park, run through the Bankhead Tunnel, turn around on Government Street and come back to the park. OPERATON RE-CONNECT: SALUTE TO SERVICE- Sat 10am-6pm, The Wharf, Orange Beach

The fun, family friendly event celebrates those who protect our freedoms and features activities such as military vendors, meet-and-greet and photo ops with local first responders, a kid-judged car show, helicopter displays, kids’ activities + games, live music and more. All proceeds raised will go to Operation ReConnect to support military families and local, military-related nonprofit organizations. CLICK HERE

Bring the family out to experience the ultimate adrenaline rush with three nights of live rodeo action featuring Professional Bull Riders from all around the country! Local favorites Cody Harris and Chris “Booger” Brown, stars of INSP Networks “The Cowboy Way” will lead this patriotic event. The Olympic-length triathlon features a 1,500-meter Gulf swim followed by a 24.8-mile bike ride and 6-mile run along the scenic beach road.
