Kids Can Visit Mall Santas From Behind Plexiglass Snowglobes This Year

The holidays will be here before we know it. As we get closer to Christmas, you may be wondering if your kids will be able to visit Santa Claus at the mall like they have in years past. Despite the pandemic, Brookfield Properties, the second largest mall operator in the country, plans to have Santa in 134 of its more than 150 malls.

"Santa is an important holiday tradition for many families but we are looking to pivot the experience for safety," Rocell Viniard, director of portfolio marketing with Brookfield Properties, said in a statement. They hope to create a "touchless experience" with Santa for kids. Of course, this means kids won't be able to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what's on their list this year.

Beginning on November 20, kids will be able to meet and greet with Santa in socially distant ways. In some Brookfield malls, Santa will appear inside a giant snow globe. While in other locations, he'll be behind a giant picture frame. "Every [visit] will be contactless. So kids can sit on wrapped packages near Santa, or across the table from Santa and have a conversation. We can still capture the memory for family photos," Viniard said. "Think of this like a drive-up window type of scenario. Guests will be able to walk up and have their conversation with Santa and then turn for the framed photo."

While these experiences with Santa will be observing social distancing measures, the mask procedures will vary by state. In states that have a mask mandate in place, Santa and guests will also be required to wear masks. In those without mask mandates, however, Santa and guests will be able to decided for themselves if they'd like to wear masks.

There will also be a virtual option for kids to meet Santa, as well. The virtual experience begins a bit earlier than the in-person option on Nov. 1. Reservations can be made through the website ExperienceJingleRing.com.
