The FBI is concluding that Bubba Wallace, a Mobile native and NASCAR's only black driver, was not the target of a hate crime after a noose was found in his race garage over the weekend.
NASCAR released a statement announcing the completion of the investigation at the Talladega Superspeedway. Based on photographic evidence, the pull rope found in Bubba Wallace's garage had been "positioned" there as early as last fall.
Wallace appeared on the Today show this morning and said while he's relieved by the conclusion, he's upset that some people are now trying to debunk his entire story.
Appearing on CNN, he disagreed with claims that the noose was actually a pull rope for the garage door, and called it "a straight-up noose."
Wallace has garnered support from members throughout the sport, including Monday when drivers and crew members pushed his car to the starting line prior to a race.
