There won't be a fireworks show this 4th of July in the city of Mobile.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson made the announcement via Twitter- "This morning we made the decision to cancel the City’s plans for a July 4 fireworks event due to concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19. Our team worked hard to develop a plan to safely conduct this annual event. I want to commend them for the extensive thought and preparation they put into the effort. However, with cases rising across Mobile County, and in consultation with health experts, we determined the risk of potential exposure was simply too great."
Other cities also have decided to cancel this year's public fireworks shows, including Pensacola, Fairhope, Chickasaw, Gulf Shores and Saraland.
At this point, shows are still planned for:
Dauphin Island (put on by a private company)
OWA (shows Friday July 3 and Saturday July 4th)
