Roadmap To Reopening Alabama Schools

Alabama State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris today unveiled the Roadmap to Reopening Alabama Schools.

What will school look like in the Fall? Campuses will be open for in-person instruction, but there will be remote learning options.

And everything is subject to change.

Roadmap recommendations are divided into 3 parts... Essential recommendations, Guidance recommendations, and Other Considerations.

"Every school is going to look different," says Dr Mackey. Things will be different for rural versus city schools, and from community to community.

The school day may look different, but he says it will be "fairly normal."

And for those parents who don't want to send their children to school, there will be remote learning available (without requiring teachers to do hours of research each night...there is curriculum available at every level.)

There will also be preparation for blended education, for example when a child starts school in person but because of the virus, etc may need to transition to remote learning.

They're encouraging school districts to consider starting school later; there's no specific date for each system to publish their plans.
