Alabama Governor Kay Ivey today extended her Safer at Home order, which had been due to expire Monday August 31st.
The order, which includes a statewide mask mandate, has been extended until Friday October 2nd.
Governor Ivey says she understands that people don't want to wear masks. She doesn't like it either, because her glasses fog up, she can't understand what people are saying because their voices are muffled, etc... but she says Alabama is seeing a significant drop in hospitalizations and daily COVID-19 numbers and she has "no doubt this is a result of our mask mandate."
Ivey says simply put, wearing masks is the right thing to do... protecting people in your office, church, school and vulnerable family members.
Both Ivey and state health officer Dr Scott Harris pointed to the upcoming Labor Day weekend and urged Alabamians to continue precautions.
