COVID Restrictions For Mobile Mardi Gras Balls

How will COVID restrictions affect Mardi Gras balls? We're beginning to get a better picture of that.

As Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson mentioned in his letter to Mardi Gras organizations on August 28th, the company that manages the Mobile Civic Center and Convention Center has sent a letter to the organizations that used those facilities for Mardi Gras balls last year, addressing the number of people who could attend a ball at those facilities, under current COVID guidelines.

According to Mobile Mask, for some of the bigger groups, that would mean cutting attendance by over half.

But that's with current guidelines, which are due to expire October 2nd. And contracts for Mardi Gras won't be written until early November, according to the letter. So there's time for things to change.

And to quote Mobile Mask, "the big news" is that they're willing to host the balls during the pandemic.

For those of us who attend.... or work... these Mardi Gras balls, that's something.
