You've seen all the "A Florida man" memes and crazy stories that start off with that phrase... but this one is different.
This headline says "A Florida Man Pays Utilities For 114 Families." CNN reports Michael Esmond made a donation to pay the past-due bills of 114 families who faced having their utilities turned off. The sum came out to more than 76-hundred dollars. Those families will get holiday cards telling them their bills have been taken care of. Esmond, who owns a local pool company, did something similar for 36 families last year.
What really got me is WHY he did it.
It wasn't just because of COVID-19 or Hurricane Sally, a definite double-whammy on families in Gulf Breeze.
It's because Michael Esmond has been in their shoes. He remembers when he was raising his kids and money was tight, and the gas was shut off during the coldest part of winter.
And now that he's successful, he's doing his best to keep other families from having that same experience, especially at Christmas.
God bless you, Mr. Esmond. Merry Christmas!
