Ahead of Monday night's National Championship game, Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox said COVID-19 has changed everything, including the way we celebrate. And with the local hospital stretched already, he appealed to the "better angels of your nature" and asked Bama fans to celebrate responsibly. He put it bluntly.... "we can't have block parties this year" and he urged Bama fans to celebrate at home and not in the streets of Tuscaloosa.
They didn't listen.
Social media posts showed video and photos of hundreds, if not thousands, of people packing The Strip in Tuscaloosa after Bama blew out Ohio State, 52-24. Police were quickly called to clear a path through town.
It's getting international attention. Piers Morgan retweeted the video, saying "If you're wondering why America has by far the worst coronavirus death toll in the world..."
