Several classic animated movies that we watched as kids are being removed from kids profiles on Disney+ because of racist and stereotypical representations.
Disney had added content warnings to “Peter Pan,” “Dumbo,” “Swiss Family Robinson,” and “Aristocats” back in the fall, but now those films have been removed from childrens' profiles for kids under 7.
And Disney explains the action, by detailing some of the inappropriate scenes in each of the movies.
For example, "Dumbo" pays homage to racist minstrel shows. "Peter Pan" portrays Native people in a stereotypical manner.
The movies have not been banned or removed from the streaming service. They are still available under regular Disney+ profiles and will include a content warning.
