In our house, the phrase "taking the scenic route" is code for a miserable experience. We were on a family vacation and my husband decided to take the scenic route through the Smoky Mountains.
We drove for hours... no rest stop in sight. And with a wife and small children, let's just say that wasn't a good thing.
This family from Virginia, however, had a much different scenic route experience.
Dhrupal Patel tells state lottery officials they decided to take the back country roads instead of the interstate on their way home from the Smoky Mountains.
Unlike my family, they actually found a rest stop... a convenience store in Tazewell, VA, where the family got snacks and Dad picked up a scratch-off lottery ticket.
When they got home, he scratched the ticket and discovered he won the top prize--- $777,777!
He says he feels very blessed.
I say he's doubly blessed. He won the lottery twice, with the scratch-off ticket and with the rest stop!
