Don't Eat Cicadas If You Have A Seafood Allergy

Not that I was planning on eating them anyway... but the FDA is reminding us not to eat cicadas if you have a seafood allergy.

Even though these bugs aren't exactly seafood, there IS a familial relation between cicadas, shrimp, and lobsters. That means they could trigger an adverse reaction much like any other food allergy.

And people do eat them. Sometimes covered in chocolate. Sometimes as a crunchy, high-protein snack. There are"tasty" recipes like Spicy Popcorn Cicadas or Cicada Tacos. (Ok, I added the quotation marks on "tasty" because I'm not really buying it, LOL!)

The FDA advice comes after billions of cicadas are appearing in the biggest emergence event since 2004.
