WATCH: Parents Monitor NICU Babies in New Orleans During The Storm

For some fleeing Hurricane Ida, it meant leaving their newborns behind.

Parents couldn't take their babies out of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Ochsner Health in New Orleans. But they couldn't stay there with them either.

It was a heart-breaking situation made so much easier by the nurses at Ochsner.

They volunteered to stay behind and take care of those infants. And the parents could check in on them, at any time, with Nicview.

39 babies, and each has a webcam on them, allowing a parent to monitor from wherever they are.

It's a system they've had for years, but some of us are only hearing about it now. I learned about it from my daughter, whose friend has a newborn in that hospital and had to evacuate.

So thankful for those nurses and for that technology!
