Oldest Living WWII Veteran Celebrates 112th Birthday in New Orleans

Happy Birthday, Mr. Brooks!

America's oldest living World War II veteran turned 112 Sunday and was treated to a drive-by parade at his home in New Orleans, thanks to the National World War II Museum.

Lawrence Brooks served in the Army from 1940 to 1945, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines.

He was decked out in a Saints jersey and waved to well-wishers from his porch. He also shared some advice for the crowd, telling them to “serve God and be nice to people.”

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards tweeted a photo of the two of them, saying, “Mr. Brooks, the entire state of Louisiana thanks you for your service and we all wish you a joyous birthday.”
