It was born out of a need to celebrate Mardi Gras when Mobile couldn't celebrate in its traditional fashion.
When Mardi Gras balls and parades were canceled due to COVID-19 in 2021, the Porch Parade emerged.
Residents were encouraged to decorate their doors, stoops, front yards and porches for Carnival and register to be put on a map so everyone could enjoy.
There were actually about 6 different routes because so many people took part.
The history-making celebration was even turned into a hard-cover book.
This year, we're planning to celebrate Mardi Gras despite COVID, with balls, parades and the return of the Porch Parade.
Registration is now open (and it's free.)
