When she was 13, Brenda Lee walked into a Nashville recording studio and laid down a raspy rockabilly vocal for a Christmas song.
That was 65 years ago, and she never imagined it would become a Christmas classic and her signature song.
It didn't start out that way. "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" barely charted, but slowly over the years, it got more airplay. Then it got a BIG boost when the movie "Home Alone" re-introduced it in 1990.
And this Christmas, it made history, claiming the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart! The 65 years between the song's release and hitting number one is the longest climb to the top in chart history. This makes Brenda Lee the oldest artist to ever top the charts.
Brenda Lee is a fun and feisty 78, and she just recorded a new video, lip-synching her original song, complete with cameos from Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood.
Enjoy!
