There have been a string of high profile incidents in the sky, most notably Dr. David Dao's forcible removal room from a United plane. And hearing these stories tends to make us all think that flying has gotten worse. But the latest J.D. Power customer satisfaction rankings tell another story. They're actually up again, for the fifth consecutive year.
Some of this may have to do with three airlines in particular -- Alaska, Southwest and JetBlue. All three have five-star ratings from J.D. Power and tend to be loved by their customers. (Debby and I fly Alaska occasionally and have never flown a better airline, ever!)
The others are not quite all that. Delta has a 4-star rating, American 3-stars, and United a lowly 2 stars.
So while the flying is getting better, it may be simply that we're getting better at finding the airlines we like and actually enjoy flying.
