I like this story because everyone made good choices. Someone had clearly had a bit much to drink, but his dilemma was that the car was parked in a place that would mean a parking ticket the next morning. We've all seen those -- a loading zone that's a 'no parking' zone from 8AM-6PM, or a meter that's inactive at night but needs to be fed in the morning.
In any event, the car's owner knew he'd facing a parking ticket the next morning if he did the right thing and did NOT drive his car after a few too many drinks. So he just left a note, asking police to "take pity" on him... and then he walked home.
The next morning, police found the car and the note -- and printed out a warning. It said "Pity Granted." A police department spokesperson told CBS News that they appreciated his honesty and his decision not to get behind the wheel.
So in return, the police also made the right decision. And they are rightfully being praised for it.
