Taylor Swift hasn't even announced a concert tour, but her team has already come up with a great idea ... to make more money. It's called "Taylor Swift Tix" (note the service mark). Her camp has teamed up with Ticketmaster with an idea that they say is designed to keep ticket scalpers at bay. But it conveniently rewards people who spend the most money on Team Taylor.
And that's the source of the criticism. By giving preference to people who buy additional Taylor Swift merchandise, this ticketing scheme favors those who have the extra money to spend on both merch and concert tickets. If you're saving what you can just to afford tickets, then good luck to you.
Those who can afford to spend a lot more are probably going to get a better deal buying on the secondary market than buying direct from Taylor Swift Tix -- at least when the cost of merchandise is added in.
Those who couldn't afford all the extra cost at least had a fighting chance for tickets, if they got online right away and purchased. But this will push those people further back in the line.
This is actually a loyalty program that rewards big spenders with easier access to her shows. Nothing wrong with that, just call it what it is...
