I wonder what made Santa Rosa County officials finally post this handy little map on Facebook. They offered it up so that people in Santa Rosa County could share their location with worried friends and family, and (I presume) help them understand that their concern wasn't really necessary.
It probably hasn't helped that Florida's state officials and the national media have not been very specific about where the danger from the storm lies, even suggesting that Irma is impacting the entire state. Saying is, though, doesn't actually make it true -- unless you count some of the breezy conditions we've had today.
I can only imagine that the misinformation is frustrating to local emergency management officials -- people who are doing their utmost to provide accurate information and relevant storm warnings. For officials in our area, the message for Irma was vigilance and preparation -- not evacuation.
