I'm a sports fan and know a little bit about most sports. But every now and then, I'll say something about football and my wife looks at me like... "you really just said that?" Don't you know that about the game? Because football rules can be complicated, I'm the first to admit I'm occasionally surprised by things.
Example: The Kick 6 that ruined Alabama's Iron Bowl a few years ago. I had no idea you could do that!
My wife knows at least as much about football as I do, and quite possibly more. So do a lot of women, especially in the South. So what was Target thinking when they put a bunch of women's shirts on sale that basically stereotype women as knowing nothing about football. One of the shirts says: "Let's touchdown a homerun."
Without taking a survey, it's probably safe to say that more women know nothing about football than men who are clueless about the game. Maybe. But a large number of men also know very little about football. And dare I say, a few of those men who know nothing about football... think they understand the game.
So what do you think? Some harmless fun, or another negative and undeserved stereotype of women? For what it's worth, these "I know nothing about football" shirts are only available for women -- not men.
