A Dog That Wouldn't Bark Was Actually A Fox

A woman who bought a dog for $190 was surprised to find out that it wasn't actually a dog, but a fox. This according to a Yahoo! UK news story. And while it seems ridiculous, it's not all that hard to see why this case of mistaken identity happened. As a puppy, at least, the fox looked quite a bit like the Japanese Spitz puppy the woman thought she was buying. But the "dog" never barked. (Which I suppose is unusual, but not unprecedented -- our dog Sadie B never barks either.... she's definitely a dog).

After about three months, her new pet refused to eat any dog food and grew a much longer tail than is typical for a dog. So she started asking questions and a local zoo confirmed the truth. The domesticated fox has been given to that zoo where it will get the care and proper diet it needs.

Check out the photos below to see the animal she got compared to the animal she was expecting to have bought. They do look rather similar. And they're both cute!
