To say that the 2020 Hurricane Season was exhausting is an understatement.
After the regular list of 21 storm names was done, we ended up going 9 letters deep into the Greek alphabet, to Iota, which was a deadly and devastating storm in Central America.
Here, Zeta was the Greek-named storm that caused a lot of damage.
The head of the National Hurricane Center, Ken Graham, says the Greek names were confusing... people were mixing up the storms. “Zeta, Eta, Theta — to have those storms at the same time was tough,” says Graham.
So the World Meterological Organization is doing away with the practice of going to the Greek alphabet after the list runs out (which it's done twice in 15 years).
Now there will be a supplemental list of names to go to:
